Help the Horse Care Unit!

[dropcap style=”font-size: 70px; color: #052b51; font-family: ‘Droid Serif’, Arial, sans-serif;”] T [/dropcap] here are some unsung horsey heroes in our riding community. The Highveld Horse Care Unit is possibly one of the greatest heroes, especially in Gauteng. They’re also the largest equine welfare organisation in the Southern hemisphere.

The HHCU helps rescue and rehome abused and neglected horses and donkeys. It is also instrumental in running educational programmes in the townships to improve the lives of working equines. The organisation receives no government funding and relies heavily on the sponsorship and donations from the public as well as the funding it receives from the horse racing authorities.

The HHCU accepts donations of old tack and riding equipment. Many times it is used in the Donkey Project but it is also sold in the Unit’s second hand store as a means to raise funds.

Now we know the Sunny Park tack queens can help! There is a big collection box set up in the seating area by the jumping arena at the yard. Please drop off any items you may no longer use or need. Items in need of minimal repair can also sometimes be used by the HHCU so don’t hold back!
